Schengen Zone Note
Iceland is part of the Schengen Area. If you enter on a tourist visa before your digital nomad visa is approved, your time counts toward the 90-day limit within any 180-day period that applies across all 29 Schengen member states.
Once you hold a valid residence permit (like the digital nomad visa), your days in Iceland no longer count against the 90/180 Schengen limit. However, travel to other Schengen countries still does.

The 90/180 rolling window is confusing to calculate manually. NomadSync tracks your days across all Schengen countries and alerts you before you overstay.
Living Costs
Iceland is one of the most expensive countries in the world — budget €3,000–€4,500/month in Reykjavík. The income requirement exists for a reason.
Reykjavík
Rent ISK 220,000–300,000/month (~€1,500–€2,100) for a central 1-bed; coworking ISK 30,000–90,000/month; meals out €20–€35
Akureyri
Rent ISK 150,000–220,000/month for a 1-bed; very limited coworking; meals out €18–€30
Tax Implications
The visa caps stays at 180 days while Iceland's tax-residency trigger is 183 days in 12 months, so holders normally never become Icelandic tax residents. Foreign remote-work income is not taxed in Iceland; you keep paying tax at home.
Tax rules change frequently. Consult a qualified tax professional before making decisions based on this information.
